There is a new trend among young women to get “preventative botox”. You may have already heard about it, but if you haven’t…I’ll fill you in.
Preventative Botox is an injectable procedure where the client gets botox BEFORE they get wrinkles. The goal is to prevent wrinkles from ever forming.
This is a large shift in the market since botox has traditionally been used by and targeted for women in their late 40s and 50s. Preventative Botox is targeted towards women as young as 20.
When I graduated college, I had the opportunity to work at a Medical Spa that specialized in injectable treatments.
I learned so much about botox, filler, facials, and skincare, and I want to share what I learned with you. Specifically, I want to share WHY Botox is not the BEST anti-aging tool, even though it can be effective.
1. Botox Cannot Improve the Appearance of Skin
When most of us think about slowing down the aging process, we think about wrinkles. But let me just tell you from experience: Wrinkles are only ONE sign of aging. Skin Texture and Appearance is much more important when it comes to appearing youthful.
Botox cannot change the texture, brightness, and plump appearance of skin.
Facials are much more effective for healthy, clear, and bright skin that appears youthful.
A regular visit to an aesthetician is more beneficial than a yearly treatment of botox.
2. Botox Can ONLY Freeze Muscles. It Cant Lift Sagging Skin.
Botox works by freezing your facial muscles and preventing you from creating wrinkles. However, the main problem with aging is not wrinkles, but it’s sagging skin.
Nasolabial folds and jowl lines are more important to anti-aging than wrinkles in the forehead or in between your eyebrows.
There are a few methods to preventing sagging skin. The first method is cosmetic and requires an injectable treatment called Juvederm. It is a facial filler made out of hyaluronic acid that lifts the skin up. This treatment is expensive and can last up to 9 months.
There are several natural options for lifting sagging skin: facials, intensive facial massage, collagen-rich supplements to boost the skin’s collagen production, vitamin-rich diet, and more.

3. Botox Doesn’t Last
Like any injectable treatment, botox eventually gets flushed out of the skin. The treatment only lasts 3 to 6 months. After that time, the client needs to come back for another round of botox.
In other words, botox only works if the client keeps getting the injectable to prevent wrinkles. Once she or he stops the treatment, there is a possibility for wrinkles to form. This is not a lasting solution.
Because botox does not last, all clients that get botox should ALSO get facials, facial, massage, and keep a healthy collagen and vitamin-rich diet. That way, when Botox leaves the skin, the client can still have a youthful appearance.
Disclaimer: I am not against anyone using Botox. Botox is simply another anti-aging tool, and it works best when combined with other anti-aging techniques.
